EDC is Canada’s export credit agency, providing trade finance and risk mitigation services to Canadian firms aspiring to compete globally. Through a competitive procurement process, the company was awarded a $100 million contract to design, develop and construct EDC’s head office, which will seek LEED gold certification upon its April 2012 completion. According to Broccolini Construction, the future landmark building – situated at the corner of O’Connor and Slater streets – represents the largest office construction project in downtown Ottawa in more than two decades. “150 Slater Street will add depth and sophistication to the Ottawa skyline and raise the bar for future developments for many years to come,” the company states. “A recessed and set-back design up to the fifth floor will allow 150 Slater Street to interact with the urban landscape upon which it will sit. EDC’s employees will benefit from Broccolini’s innovative design that maximizes functional space with an environment that encourages flexible workspace and promotes collaboration. Composed of metal and glass curtain wall with full glazing, the exterior envelope maximizes the use of natural light, fostering a pleasant work environment.” Family Business Donato Broccolini founded the company in 1949 and completed its first project – a singlefamily home in Montreal. The company continued to focus on residential projects until the 1970s, when it moved into institutional and commercial work with school, church, synagogue and hospital projects. Working throughout Quebec, the company eventually added manufacturing facilities, retail outlets, malls, offices and industrial complexes to its portfolio. In the 1980s, Donato Broccolini’s sons – Joseph, John and Paul – assumed leadership positions, which they maintain today. The company operates out of two locations – its Kirkland, Quebec, headquarters and a second office in Ottawa – and performs general contracting, con- continues lead the »The Broccolini familyBroccolini into1949. Strong relationships built over years of dealing with clients, professionals, municipalities and trades enable us to succeed with the most challenging of projects. “Our greatest asset is our satisfied clients, most of whom are repeat customers, who become our ambassadors and are proud to show our potential clients their facilities,” it • Project cost: $100 million • Location: Kirkland, Quebec • Employees: 80 • Services: Construction management, general contracting and design/build Broccolini Construction Inc. “150 Slater Street will add depth and sophistication to the Ottawa skyline.” –Broccolini CONSTRUCTION-TODAY.COM DECEMBER 2009 http://www.CONSTRUCTION-TODAY.COM
