Institutional | CLARK CONSTRUCTION – LOWELL RECEPTION CENTER Correct Construction CLARK CONSTRUCTION IS GENERAL CONTRACTOR ON THE LOWELL RECEPTION CENTER. s a performer of heavy/civil work including airport, heavy rail, light rail, bridges, interstate roadwork and facilities, Clark Construction says it has the “expertise when the going gets tough.” The company’s civil division has worked on projects ranging from $10 million to $100 million. “We deliver projects through a variety of contracting methods, including design/build, construction manager at-risk and general contracting,” Clark says. “With a staff of over 20 percent certified professional engineers, Clark Civil’s projects are led by an experienced heavy/civil technical staff and supported by a multidisciplinary in-house team.” The company says its civil division has completed numerous projects in the Washington Metropolitan Area, such as the construction of the $96 million Metro blue line extension to Largo Town Center in Largo, Md. Clark’s design/build team completed two new Metro stations and parking garages in 27 months, which it says is faster than a typical, single station that is completed under the tradition design/bid/build contracting method. ‘Low’ Development Clark’s civil division has begun construction of the Lowell Reception Center in Ocala, Fla. for the Lowell Correctional Institute. The Florida Department of Corrections in-house architects will design the new $100 million facility. Tetra Tech Inc. of Pasadena, Calif. will perform as the civil, electrical and mechanical engineer. The 250,000-square-foot construction will use cast-in-place concrete for its foundation with a structural steel frame. The roof will be a steel joist structure encompassing a steel bar joist rooftop deck. The main function of the building will be for administrative as well as arsenal purposes. Lowell Reception Center will include many features, such as: • Administrative offices including facility records storage; • Medical area with doctors’ offices, patient beds and treatment facilities; • Prison communications center with stateof-the-art computer systems; • Security center with equipment storage The Lowell Reception Center is a new 250,00-square-foot $100 million project. « • Inmate intake and outtake area; • Visitor waiting area with restrooms; and • Vehicle parking structure. The Lowell C.I. is the oldest state facility for women in Florida. It was opened in 1956 and was first named Florida Correctional Institute. It housed all custody levels including death row inmates. In 1973, Florida C.I. obtained the Forest Hills School for Girls from the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services, which is located on the same property.
