IS DEMONSTRATING ITS RELIABILITY AND EXPERTISE ON THE TEN-MILE INTERCHANGE PROJECT IN IDAHO. n an effort to relieve traffic congestion at the existing Interstate 84 and Meridian Road interchange in Meridian, Idaho, Idaho Transportation Department (IDT) has embarked on the construction of a 200foot overpass to provide local access to the growing Ada County. “This project represents a significant improvement for the residents of Meridian and for the people throughout Treasure Valley,” Meridian Mayor Tammy de Weerd said in a statement. The $34 million Ten-Mile Interchange will be the first new exit on I-84 since the Karchner exit and will span 200 feet across the interstate. The two-lane road will be widened to four lanes and will include bicycle lanes, sidewalks and a traffic signal, as well as on- and off-ramp connections. It is expected to alleviate congestion at the Garrity and Meridian interchanges. Ten Years in the Making General contractor Idaho Sand & Gravel Co. of Nampa, Idaho, began work on the Ten-Mile Interchange in July and is expected to complete the project in the summer of 2011. The Ten-Mile Interchange’s 2011 completion will mark the 10-year anniversary of the Community Planning Association of Southwest Idaho and ITD’s initial study of the I-84 corridor. According to ITD, the 2001 study recommended numerous transportation improvements along the corridor – including increasing interstate access between Meridian and Caldwell, Idaho – and identified Ten Mile Road as a future access point for an interchange.
