Institutional | PIZZAGALLI CONSTRUCTION CO. – FAHC RADIATION ONCOLOGY The new radiation oncology facility will allow FAHC to consolidate all of its clinical radiation oncology services into one location. « Medical Projects Prevail PIZZAGALLI IS BUILDING A NEW RADIATION ONCOLOGY FACILITY FOR FLETCHER ALLEN HEALTH CARE. espite turbulent times in the commercial market, healthcare construction remains relatively stable throughout the Northeast, statistics show. According to Reed Construction Data, the institutional sector saw an 8.1 percent increase in construction start-ups from January 2008 to November 2008 compared to the same period in 2007. Moreover, the value of new building projects for hospitals and medical clinics from January 2008 to November 2008 saw a 27.5 percent increase over the previous year. In a February 2009 Valley Business Journal article, Andrew Martin, vice president at Pizzagalli Construction Co., concurred. He said the South Burlington, Vt.-based contractor saw an uptick in healthcare projects, particularly in the renovation of existing space and expansion of outpatient facilities. Although medical facility start-ups have slowed in 2009 due to financial complications, statistical data indicates contractors that were awarded healthcare projects last year are fortunate to maintain a solid backlog. Healthcare Expert Pizzagalli says its healthcare experience includes: • Diagnostic imaging centers; • Emergency and intensive care units; • State-of-the-art medical research and laboratory facilities; • Surgical suites and pre- and post-operative acute care units; • Cancer treatment facilities (including radiation therapy facilities, linear accelerators, infusion centers and surgical oncology suites); • Pharmacies; • Inpatient psychiatric centers; • Rehabilitation and sports medicine clinics; • Assisted living and long-term care facilities; and • Support facilities such as parking garages and heliports. Pizzagalli’s Expertise Pizzagalli, which excels in specialized hospital construction, is reputed to be especially skillful in construction management and in-hospital construction, it says. “Pizzagalli has decades of experience in hospital infrastructure and building systems upgrades and expansions, all completed while ensuring that life safety systems are maintained,” the company states. “Pizzagalli uses innovative construction methods and problem-solving approaches to respond to each customer's needs. We construct high-quality, cost-effective healthcare environments for new and existing facilities. Our experience in the renovation and expansion of existing hospitals without disruption to the facility’s daily operations saves valuable time and reduces costs for our clients.” CONSTRUCTION-TODAY.COM OCTOBER 2009
