Institutional | CARBON CONSTRUCTORS INC. Congregation Renovation It’s a good thing Terry Androsoff founded Carbon Constructors with 38 years’ worth of construction under his belt. The renovation of Holy Name Church in Calgary, Alberta has required just about every trick of the trade the construction veteran has picked up during his career. The first phase of this project involves the demolition of the existing rectory and the construction of a new 7,000-square-foot structure and adjacent parking lot. This $2.5 million portion of the work broke ground in June 2009 and will be completed by the end of the year. Phase 2 will demolish an existing hall and construct a new hall on the same footprint. The company will begin construction of this phase immediately after completion of phase 1. The 7,000-square-foot hall will cost $1.7 million. Between working within an operational house of worship, challenges with the city of Calgary over permitting and fielding concerns from residents not keen on the idea of a major development taking place in their neighborhood, the project is now about three weeks behind schedule. However, Androsoff is determined to have Holy Name complete and ready to unveil its new rectory in time for Christmas. “Our goal is to have them in for the Christmas services, and I am going to do everything in my power to make that happen,” he notes. However, with almost 40 years of experience behind him, President Terry Androsoff of Carbon Constructors Inc. knows if his company can get through these dire times, there will be nowhere to go but up. “I tell people and believe this: It is a great time to start a company,” Androsoff says. “We’re developing our systems now, and if we can make it go in lean times, we’ll be positioned to be ready for the upswing again. “My mentor always said, ‘If you watch your pennies, the dollars will look after themselves,’” Androsoff adds. “We just need to watch our pennies a little more.” Carbon Constructors offers a variety of services throughout the Calgary, Alberta, region, including value-engineering, estimating, contract administration, scheduling and site supervision. Carbon Constructors also boasts a variety of maintenance and repair capabilities, including roofing, waterproofing, graffiti removal, masonry and concrete restoration and interior renovations. “Carbon Constructors has vast knowledge and experience in every aspect of general con- OCTOBER 2009 CONSTRUCTION-TODAY.COM
