Institutional | BIRD CONSTRUCTION CO. – SHEARWATER HELICOPTER BASE Shearwater Grows W ith its past experience constructing hangars, Bird Construction Co. has been the ideal contractor for the Shearwater maritime helicopter in-service support facility project in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The general contractor is nearing completion on the project for clients Defence Construction Canada (DCC) and the Department of National Defence (DND). The base, which is the home of 12 Wing, needed three new facilities to support its maritime helicopter training and operations. According to Bird Project Manager Bill Zister, the project was the largest single contract ever to be awarded in DCC’s history.
