EllisDon Corporation recently topped out the structure of the 8-story Surrey Memorial Hospital (SMH) Critical Care Tower project in Surrey, British Columbia. Current work on the $512 million project includes framing the lobby of the building with structurally glazed glulam and completing the building’s curtainwall cladding, which is up to its seventh story. The first two stories, which will house the hospital’s emergency department, will be turned over June 30, 2013. “The first two floors are going to be open eight months earlier than the rest of the tower, which is a challenge, but everyone here is working hard to get as much as possible done before that,” Construction Manager Fred Wray says. Level 1 is currently being painted, and drywall work is proceeding on the second floor. The fourth, fifth and sixth floors are being roughed in.
