The first floor of the building will include
6,000 square feet designated for retail. Two
businesses - OXXO Dry Cleaners and GOGO
Fresh cafe - have already leased space.
Vice's location in downtown Miami poses
logistical challenges for Moriarty. "This is a
tight site," Schuerger notes. "We are shoehorned between the Miami-Dade Transit
Authority Metro Mover, a community
college and a Holiday Inn."
The east side of the property is the only
side open to cranes and other equipment.
Workers park off site and either take the
Metro Mover - which is located on the west
side of Vice - or buses to the worksite.
Large deliveries to the worksite are
scheduled around Metro Mover activity. The
concrete foundation for the building was
placed by crane during the four-hour period in the middle of the night. "We flew the
crane when the [Metro Mover] was closed,"
Moriarty maintains safety during crane
work on the site around public
activity by having spotters on the ground
who have direct contact with train operators. Other safety measures include weekly
management meetings coordinated by the
project's on-site safety manager, weekly
meetings with subcontractors, and a monthly meeting with all project personnel.
The general contractor schedules all
aspects of the work out three weeks ahead
of time during its weekly subcontractor
