When a hazard is seen, employees are required to correct or
control them in order to protect their co-workers. All employees are trained in how to recognize and address hazards. The
company appoints safety representatives to each of its sites.

department, it says.

"Safety representatives, working with project supervision,
will provide real-time safety intervention of unsafe job practices
and conditions that could lead to an injury, illness or property
damage," the company says. "[Safety representatives] will reward
employees for performing their duties in a manner that demonstrates Fred Weber's commitment to safety that goes above and
beyond minimum compliance."
One of the company's biggest safety tools is its "near miss"
reporting procedure. Employees report hazardous conditions
or incidents that could have, but did not, result in injury. These
incidents are investigated and corrective actions are taken before
any further incidents occur.
All employees who submit a qualified near miss report are
entered into a competition. Each quarter, safety representatives
review reports to determine which had the greatest safety
benefit. The employee that submitted the winning report
receives a $200 gift certificate. Each year, the safety representatives choose the most beneficial report from the four quarterly
winners, with the winner receiving a $1000 gift certificate, the
