Hoerr’s employees have coped with the challenges presented by Mother Nature, Bassett says. While the company has endured the frigid winter weather, it also worked during hot temperatures in the summer. “We’ve done a pretty good job,” Bassett says, noting that the company’s field personnel deserve a commendation for their work. “They worked quite a bit during the summer to get to where we needed to be. We’re definitely proud of those guys.” Bassett also praises P.J. Hoerr’s subcontractors. “[They] have been great to work with,” Bassett continues, noting that the company is primarily utilizing local contractors that it also has worked with in the past. “They’re all specialty trades.” W 118 ith the population of Normal, Ill., seeing increases on a regular basis, the number of people needing medical services also will grow. To adjust to that change, the city’s Advocate BroMenn Medical Center is expanding its capabilities with its new expansion project. General contractor P.J. Hoerr Inc. is constructing the $39 million project, which includes a three-story addition to the existing medical center. Assistant Project Manager Tim Bassett adds that the company is also con- structing a new lower level. When finished, the additions will cover a total of 139,000 square feet and feature critical care units and a mother-baby center. Bassett notes that this is P.J. Hoerr’s third project for Advocate Healthcare. “With the population rising, a mother and baby addition was definitely needed,” he says, noting that the center will have space for delivery, recovery and post-partum treatment. “They are actually kind of adopting a new concept where all of the rooms are incorporated together.” CONSTRUCTION-TODAY.COM MARCH 2011 http://www.CONSTRUCTION-TODAY.COM
