GIVING BACK Blues Chicago contractors will sponsor a concert event to raise money for rape victims. BY KATHRYN JONES OUT OF THE C 6 CONSTRUCTION-TODAY.COM FEBRUARY 2011 onstruction and demolition leaders in Chicago are gearing up for the “Out of the Blues” third-annual concert event at the House of Blues on Friday, March 4, to raise money for victims of sexual abuse and assault. Proceeds from the event will go to the Zacharias Sexual Abuse Center (ZCenter) in Gurnee, Ill., which provides 24-hour crises response, risk reduction programs and comprehensive advocacy at no cost to rape survivors and their families. “Our funding from the state has been slashed dramatically,” says Torrie Flink, executive director of ZCenter. “But thanks to the support of the community and business leaders – and the success of our annual events like Out of the Blues – we continue to serve thousands of area women, children and men ever year.” Out of the Blues is a $175-per-person event that will feature live performances from blues legend Lonnie Brooks and Living Blues magazine’s Female Artist of the Year, Shemekia Copeland; food, desserts and an open bar; live auctions and a chance to hobnob with the who’s who of the Chicago construction industry.
