In 2009, Danis Building Construction completed 31 healthcare projects. « Institutional | DANIS BUILDING CONSTRUCTION COMPANY – THE INDU AND RAJ SOIN MEDICAL CENTER Cutting-Edge Duo D DANIS USES NEW TECHNIQUES TO PROVIDE VALUE FOR A HEALTHCARE CLIENT. BY JAMIE MORGAN ayton, Ohio’s leading healthcare network has teamed with a leader in healthcare construction to build a new medical center that will be just as innovative on the outside as it is inside. The new Indu and Raj Soin Medical Center in Beavercreek, Ohio, will join the Kettering Health Network’s other 60 facilities that employ more than 1,200 physicians. Construction for the $135 million project began in August 2009, and after its topping off in early September 2010, it is on track for its scheduled completion during the fourth quarter of 2011. The 275,000-square-foot, seven-story facility will be a full-service hospital complete with diagnostic and clinical spaces, operating rooms, two floors for acute care and a maternity floor. Four floors will accommodate 90 beds with the ability to add 30 more for future expansion. With an $80 million construction budget, Kettering brought on Danis Building Construction Co. to manage the preconstruction and construction process. Hospital Expertise Danis Building Construction, a corporation within the Danis Companies, is a Midwest construction management and general contracting firm that specializes in the commercial and government sectors. The company is known especially for its healthcare work. In 2009, it completed 31 healthcare projects, the fourth-highest amount in the nation according to Healthcare Design. “Healthcare construction is something we’ve always done,” says Jim Albertson, project director for Danis. “Some of our repeat clients are very large hospital networks that we perform multiple projects for. For instance the [Indu and Raj Soin Medical Center] is our eighth project with Kettering, and we were just awarded a ninth project that is also in construction right now.” For the Indu and Raj Soin Medical Center, Danis is proving again why it is the go-to contractor for hospital construction. Kettering Health Network was founded by the legendary and often-quoted inventor Charles Kettering. Danis Building Construction Company – The Indu and Raj Soin Medical Center www.danis.com • Construction cost: $80 million • Location: Beavercreek, Ohio • Employees on site at peak: 350 “We perform additional services that clients request, but also sometimes they just need to be done.” –Jim Albertson, project director The network continues his mission of innovation in every process, including construction. It needed a contractor that could do the same. The project will feature a new technique that Albertson says is advancing in popularity among architects and engineers known as “outsulation.” The technique is gaining ground in health-related buildings that must aggressively reduce mold and condensation.
