Civil | WORLDWIDE RENTAL SERVICES Diverse Services WORLDWIDE RENTAL SERVICES IS FOCUSED ON UPDATING ITS FLEET FOR BETTER SERVICE. BY LIBBY JOHN orldwide Rental Services (WRS) is taking advantage of the current economic conditions to update its fleet. This includes construction equipment for all types of projects located in the western half of the United States, such as heavy highway, heavy civil, residential, mining, governmental, oil and gas, and environmental clean-up. “We’re essentially rolling out older higher hour machines and replacing with new models while the prices are still affordable,” General Manager Mike Rooney says. “We have added recently added low hour Cat D8T’s, 330DL’s and all sizes of vibratory rollers.” The company – a division under Worldwide Machinery – has locations in Denver and Grand Junction, Colo.; Hobbs and Albuquerque, N.M.; W Worldwide Rental Services • Revenues: $31.7 million • Headquarters: Denver • Employees: 54 • Service: Construction equipment rental “My vision is that [we] will continue to expand at a pace that is sustainable.” –Mike Rooney, general manager Salt Lake City, Utah; Casper, Wy.; and Las Vegas. All the locations offer the same fleet mix, he says. WRS has used the recession as an opportunity to open new locations – the Casper, Las Vegas and Grand Junction offices all opened in the past year. It is also looking to move into Texas, as well, Rooney says. “There was more business opportunities there than what existed in areas where we were in,” he says. Despite opening new offices and growing its fleet, the economy has not been favorable to the company. “The recession has impacted us greatly based on the fact that it is difficult to find contractors with work that need to rent,” he says. “It’s very difficult, that’s why we opened new locations. We had to move to more locations so there is more opportunity. “We also had to lay off some people,” he notes. “That was disappointing because some of them worked here for a long time.” JANUARY 2010 CONSTRUCTION-TODAY.COM http://www.CONSTRUCTION-TODAY.COM
