BY LIBBY JOHN encompasses the construction of the facility, is scheduled to be completed by September 2010, and the court is set to move in shortly thereafter. Phase two, which is the demolition of the existing courthouse located north of the new facility, and phase three, which includes completing the parking lot, are scheduled to take place in December 2010. The project is expected to achieve LEED silver certification. Sustainable initiatives include a 3,100-square-foot green roof, procedures ensuring that 75 percent of the construction waste diverted from landfill, and design features to achieve 40 percent reduction of water he East Contra Costa County Courthouse in Pittsburg, Calif., will achieve several firsts after the new 73,500-square-foot facility is completed in the middle of 2010. For example, the $41 million facility will be the first LEED-certified courthouse built by the state Administrative Office of the Courts, as well as the first courthouse in California to be completely funded by the state. As of December, the new facility was about 40 percent complete – the foundation, structural shell and the interior and exterior skins are being constructed.
